Taveuni Island Accommodation

For a vacation away from the noisy cities and usual tourist attractions, take a break in one of the most unspoiled and stunning regions in the South Pacific. Fiji is home to 333 islands, only 106 of which are populated. But, for a tranquil and relaxing holiday with friendly people and beautiful surroundings, it's hard to go past Taveuni.

The island of Taveuni is a slice of paradise known as the Garden Island for its wildlife and natural surroundings. Though it only has a population of 9000, Taveuni Island boasts 12 resorts and is arguably Fiji's best scuba diving spot. Go fishing and kayaking, or explore the gorgeous surrounds, before stopping for a relaxing drink of kava and an unparalleled sunset.

The accommodation options on Taveuni range from lavish to simple, depending on your taste and budget. In Taveuni you can get an inexpensive hotel room or unit by the beach.

For something different, the Matangi Private Island Resort, not far from Taveuni, is a small and private 240 acre island. It has only about 15 accommodation options: a mix of bungalows, villas and bures (cottages).

Taveuni is known for its natural wonders. Bouma National Heritage Park occupies 15,000 hectares of the island, a result of lava flows and conservation. Take a tour of the park, a trek to the waterfalls, or see the Wataibu Marine Park, where you can snorkel in protected marine areas. And every visitor should visit the Rainbow Reef, with is luminescent white coral and 31 kilometres of underwater habitat.
